Using Message Rules to filter out tagged spam in Outlook Express and Outlook

Netlink's Spam filters score incoming e-mail based on certain characteristics that tend to identify Spam. One of three things might happen:

Most likely, the e-mails appearing in your mailbox with *****SPAM***** in the subject line are truly spam. You can set up Message Rules in your Outlook Express or Outlook E-mail program so that these are automatically put into your Deleted Items folder and you'll never need to see these again. Here's how:

OutLook Express:

  1. Click on "Tools" at the top of the screen, then "Message Rules", and then "Mail".
  2. The top half of the window sets the conditions for rules. Click on either "New" to create a new rule, or a rule in the white box to add conditions to it.
  3. Next, you set the rule in number one. For these e-mails, you should click on "Where the subject line contains specific words" then in the box underneath type *****SPAM***** (That's 5 stars, SPAM in capitol letters, 5 stars again).
  4. Now go to number two. You should click the box "Move it to the specified folder", then choose the Deleted Items Folder from the list.
  5. Click on "OK" and you're done!

Outlook:

  1. With Outlook open, navigate to the Tool menu, and then click on the Rules Wizard to open it.
  2. Click on the "New" button to begin creating your rule.
  3. Click on "Move messages based on content".
  4. The next step is to specify the words that are common in all of these Emails. Click on "specific words" for the next step.
  5. Next click OK
  6. After clicking OK you now need to define where these SPAMS go.
  7. Click on "specified folder"
  8. Now select "Deleted Items" (or whatever folder you would like to use) and click OK.
  9. Click on "Next" to continue
  10. Click on Next - Make sure your new rule is checked - and then click on "Run Now". All current and future SPAM with that wording will now go directly to the Deleted folder.
