SMTP Authentication

Webmasters Note: SMTP Auth is not strictly required on our mail servers but if you are having problems sending e-mail turning this on in your e-mail program (by following these instructions) might help a lot.

jellico.com now has nationwide access. As part of this process, we need to secure our mail servers more than they have been in the past. We've configured our server to only send email via SMTP AUTH, so now you have to configure your email client to send your username and password whenever you need to send email. Most email clients now support this, although several do not (particularly "Claris Emailer").

What is SMTP AUTH?

SMTP is the acronym for "Simple Mail Transfer Protocol", which is the standard that defines how email is sent.

AUTH is short for "Authentication", as in usernames & passwords.

How does SMTP AUTH affect me?

You have to configure your email client to send your username and password whenever you need to send email.

We know how frustrating it is to try to figure this out, so we've tried to do it for you. Pick your platform and email client and follow the instructions.
