SMTP Auth in Netscape 4.X
NOTE: These instructions will work for Netscape 4.X and probably for higher versions. Versions of Netscape lower than 4.0 do not support SMTP Auth. You can upgrade Netscape at Netscape's web site .
- Open Netscape Messenger
- Click on Edit and come down to Preferences. Click on Preferences.
- Select "Mail Servers" from the list on the left.
- Look for the section headed "Outgoing Mail Server.
- The name of your mail server should be in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" window. Beneath that is a window that says "Outgoing mail server username". Type your username (the part of your e-mail address before the @ sign) into that window.
- Your Messanger will now authenticate itself using the provided user name.
