A little info about me....

I was born in 1956 and lived most of my life in Georgia.

I was raised by a single parent (my Mom raised my two sisters and myself) and eventually became a single parent of two children myself.

I dropped out of school early in the 11th grade (high school just didn't do much for me!) and obtained my GED and went on to College. I don't reccomend this educational route, it's not the easy way to do things! I obtained my Bachelors degree in 1982 from Augusta College (now called Augusta State University) in Augusta, GA.

While a single parent (and at the age of 35), I returned to school full time as a graduate student. I graduated from the Medical College of Georgia with a MS degree in Biochemistry in 1994.

I have in the past been a victim of domestic violence

I am a recovering alcoholic. I have been in recovery since 1986. The tools for living that I learned from Alcoholics Anonymous and the love and caring of the people I met there saved my life.

I was raised as a Unitarian . I converted to Catholicism a few years ago, but managed to recover from that ;-) I am currently a member of Church of the Larger Fellowship. CLF, a UU church at home anywhere in the world, is a special congregation. Founded especially for UU's isolated by chance or by choice, CLF offers resources and services that help maintain connections with UUism.

I believe in life after death and that it is possible for those of us still living to communicate with departed loved ones, though that doesn't happen often.

I believe in evolution and that it should be taught in schools, if not in place of creationism then it should at least be given equal emphasis. I agree with the following statement from Project Steve of the NCSE (National Center for Science Education :

Evolution is a vital, well-supported, unifying principle of the biological sciences, and the scientific evidence is overwhelmingly in favor of the idea that all living things share a common ancestry. Although there are legitimate debates about the patterns and processes of evolution, there is no serious scientific doubt that evolution occurred or that natural selection is a major mechanism in its occurrence. It is scientifically inappropriate and pedagogically irresponsible for creationist pseudoscience, including but not limited to "intelligent design," to be introduced into the science curricula of our nation's public schools.

Gee... I sure wish I were an NCSE Steve... ;-)

I believe in the right of individuals to decide when to end their own life and die with dignity. For more information, visit The Hemlock Societies webpage. I support the efforts of the couragous physicians who are willing to help their patients end their lives in a peaceful, dignified manner.
