I've got my web pages all ready and I have contacted jellico.com, Inc.'s Web Master to get my web directory set up. Now what do I do???
Find a program to upload your pages
Once you have your web page(s) ready, you will need some special software to upload your pages to the internet. This is called a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program
jellico.com, Inc. recommend WS_FTP which can be downloaded from jellico.com, Inc.
You will find WS_FTP and selection of other FTP programs at Tucows . Just do a search for FTP there.
Once you have downloaded your FTP program you will need to configure it, to give you access to your web space. Here is some information about using WS_FTP
Wgen you first run WS_FTP, click on the NEW button to configure the software to connect to your web directory on our web server. Your screen should look like this after you type in the correct info:
- Make sure you put Your jellico.com Username in the User ID box and Your jellico.com Password in the password box.
- Be sure to uncheck the "Anonymous" box and check the "Save Password" box.
Next click on the tab at the top labeled "Startup". Configure this screen to look like this:
- Make sure you replace "username" in the Initial Remote Host Directory box with Your jellico.com Username .
- In the Initial Local Directory box, type the path to the directory on your computer where your HTML files are stored.
Then click on Apply to save this configuration.
Uploading your files
Make sure that your index page (main web page) is called index.htm or index.html. .
When you first connect you will have no files in your web directory. Your screen will look something like this:
- The left hand screen contains files on your own computer.
- The right hand screen contains files on your web directory on jellico.com's web server.
- You can move around your computer, and open different folders, by clicking on arrows and folders in the left hand screen.
- You can move around your web directory on jellico.com's web server in the same way, using the right hand side of the screen.
- You can transfer files from your computer to your web directory, using the --> button.
- You can transfer files from your web directory, back to your own computer using the <-- button.
- Your transfer mode should be set to Binary. This allows you to transfer images and sound files, as well as text.
- You can also delete files in your web directory, and add new folders (MkDir) using the buttons on the right.
- You can even rename files in your web directory. This is useful if you have (or haven't) used capital letters by mistake, and my links don't work.
This should be enough information to get you started! If you have questions, feel free to E-mail jellico.com's Web Master
